Volunteers
The majority of charitable non-profits are governed by a volunteer board of directors. According to the IRS, 85% of all charitable non-profits have no paid staff and are run entirely by volunteers. Volunteers are screened and must pass a national background check prior to being selected for service, oriented, trained, supervised, and evaluated, especially because they are working with vulnerable individuals, children.
